The purpose is to enrich the lives of many in the Amsterdam community
through reading and related activities thereby enhancing literacy and a
sense of community and promoting the Amsterdam Free Library.

Reads 2009 |
Amsterdam Reads is a community literacy
project that encourages residents to read a designated book and
then discuss it with other readers and participate in various
events related to that book. At the end of 2008, the residents
of Amsterdam selected MURDER IN THE ADIRONDACKS by Craig Brandon
as the book the community will read in 2009.
The Planning Committee of Amsterdam Reads 2009 has announced the
following book-related events: |

Events as follows: |
JANUARY
30, 2009—A PLACE IN THE SUN will be shown in the Community
Room at the Riverfront Center on January 30 at 7:00 PM. This
1951 black and white movie, starring Elizabeth Taylor and
Montgomery Clift, is based on Theodore Dreiser’s novel, AN
AMERICAN TRAGEDY which depicts the murder of Grace Brown by
Chester Gillette at Big Moose Lake in the Adirondacks. MURDER IN
THE ADIRONDACKS is the first complete account of the facts
behind the fiction. Popcorn and soda will be available.
FEBRUARY
15, 2009—A book discussion on MURDER IN THE ADIRONDACKS will
be held at the Amsterdam Free Library on February 15 from 2:00
to 4:00 PM. Bob Cudmore will be the M.C. and Audrey Kupferberg
will lead the discussion.
Refreshments will be served.
MARCH
15, 2009—Craig Brandon, author of MURDER IN THE ADIRONDACKS,
will be at the Century Club, 130 Guy Park Ave. from 2:00 to 4:00
PM to present a multi-media presentation about his book.
Refreshments will be served.
