Imagine...
everybody reading the same book. Imagine everybody discussing the themes, characters, and plots of one book with friends and neighbors, a book chosen by members of the Amsterdam community. This is what happened last year when RIDERS UP by Louis Hildebrandt was chosen as the book the Amsterdam community read together. And now Amsterdam is ready to do it again.

John Naple, chairman of Amsterdam Reads 2012 has announced the Honorary Chairs for this year’s programs: Recorder Publisher Kevin McClary, WVTL Radio Personality Bob Cudmore, Amsterdam 3rd Ward Alderwoman Gina DeRossi, and Proprietor of THE BOOK HOUND and editor of UPSTREAM— A Mohawk Valley Journal, Daniel Weaver.

Members of this year’s Steering Committee are: Joan Baumler, Bill Blance, Maria Cinquanti, Joan Decker, Laura Falco, Maureen Hand, Gloria Martuscello, Linda Naple, Donna Palczak, Stephanie Persico, Dianne Santos, and Ann Sherman.

This year’s book selections are comprised of two works of fiction, one work of non-fiction, one work with local ties, and one classic. The committee had several excellent books from which to choose, and the selection of five books proved to be difficult. After much discussion, the following are the books from which Amsterdam voters will pick one that the entire community will read in 2012:
