Imagine...
everybody reading the same book and discussing with their friends and neighbors the themes, characters, plots and twists of one book-- chosen by members of the Amsterdam community by popular vote, to be announced in early November.

Amsterdam Reads 2008 is being spearheaded by a group of Amsterdam area citizens who have caught the fever of the community read phenomenon that is sweeping the country.

The Steering Committee consists of local individuals, including educators, authors, business people, lawyers, and others. The idea is to include the participation of other groups such as book clubs, church and synagogue groups, senior organizations, and the schools.
A proposed timeline is as follows:
Voting begins September 12 and ends October 31st.
November 14th the selected book will be announced - just in time for holiday purchasing.
January 2008 – Kick-off event at the library
February 2008 – Enhanced book discussion
March 2008 – Other programming
April 2008 – Final event during National Library Week
